Why am I an addicted writer?

First of all, let me make it clear that I am NOT addicted to drink, drugs or even Haagen-Daazs: I’m addicted to writing. Recently, I’ve been typing up two YA novels that I wrote in old school exercise books and re-editing my previously published novels – it’s been an intense time during which I became so engrossed that I forgot to eat, drink and sleep. But at the same time, it’s been such a thrill to revisit what I’ve written, to tweak slightly here and there (mostly with formatting because my grammar skills have improved since first publishing) and to publish new novels for the first time in seven years.

If I had the time, I would probably write all day, every day. Unfortunately, I’m an English teacher in a secondary school where a lot of the children are EAL and I’m trying to write lessons that make Shakespeare accessible to students with little or no English, so that means my window of opportunity is fairly limited. In other words, I write when and where I can.

On this website, you’ll find links to the novels I’ve published as an independent author, as well as short stories I’m letting loose on an unsuspecting public, or extracts from some of my published work. I’ll also share links to other writers’ websites and book reviews of anything I’ve read recently that might interest other people.

So, whether you’re addicted to writing, like me, or addicted to reading – or just enjoy browsing random websites, I hope you find something you like on this one and come back again.

My Work

Read my books

Whether you like YA or grown up fiction, fantasy, sci-fi or chick-lit, you’ll find something you enjoy. For gritty, angst-ridden YA fiction set in the north of England in the 1990s or in Birmingham in the 1980s, read anything I’ve published under the name Jane Andrews – you can read my American high school series under Jane Andrews too; and for contemporary chick-lit/rom-com, see Daisy Jenel.

Leave feedback

Indie authors need feedback from readers – all comments welcome. If you don’t like something I’ve written, or think it could be improved, please leave feedback – I can’t fix it unless someone tells me it needs fixing.

About Me

I’m an indie-author who loves to write. If you grew up in the 1970s, 1980s or 1990s, you’ll enjoy anything I’ve written under the name ‘Jane Andrews’; but if you fancy something lighter and more contemporary, have a look at anything I’ve written as ‘Daisy Jenel’. I’m currently thinking of publishing my YA fantasy series under the name ‘J S Warden’ to make a distinction between the genres I write – so watch this space.

I’ve always been an avid reader, since teaching myself to read at the age of three. By the time I was six, I was writing lengthy stories in school and then had a short story published in a regional anthology at the age of fifteen. Over the years, I’ve written a number of novels, but it’s only recently that I’ve realised I can self-publish and thus cut out the agony of waiting to see if traditional publishing houses are interested in my writing.

Since Jan 2018, I’ve independently published 11 books, the two most recent being Books 1 and 2 in a 5-part YA highschool romance series. Find out more about what I write on one of my other pages.
